Backpacks accompany us through cities and landscapes. They carry what is necessary and extend our bodies with a mobile layer of both weight and protection. Xenia Bond’s Butt Sniffers are made from backpacks found on the street, whose fabrics still retain the traces and smells of their former owners. Mounted on welded metal legs, they become hybrid creatures somewhere between animal and everyday object. The familiar suddenly appears strange, slightly repulsive and at the same time amusing. Like curious strays, the Butt Sniffers populate the space with a presence that is both playful and uncanny.
