Maya Saravia is concerned with anything that moves, be it a body, a riot, a political idea or a religious belief. In love with the ephemeral and ecstatic occurrence of fire. Works with whatever medium available, from painting to pyrotechnics.
Like weeds resisting attempts at urban control, acts of civil disobedience respond to state violence and the lies of official narratives. For a long time—and especially now—ethics have been on the side of weeds. Various Small Fires is an installation of two videos where fire is at once literal, political, and aesthetic: while Torito Drift takes us to an action at the Olympia Stadium in 2025, performing a pyrotechnic dance with a car, Various Small Fires is a visual essay on the collective power of riots, with footage from actions in Berlin in 2024 and found material from around the world. People together, like sparks, ignite fire and alter the state of matter.
