Works
Harry Hachmeister’s interdisciplinary works range from photography to drawing and painting to ceramics. Processes of change, temporary structures, and intermediate stages form the starting points for Hachmeister's artistic exploration of identities, bodies, and their attributions.
Harry Hachmeister’s Popelman [EN: booger man] celebrates what society often deems taboo: nose-picking, body hair, sweat, burping, farting, as well as a unisex body. With anarchic humor and grotesque exaggeration, the figure challenges norms, control, and shame surrounding the human body, calling for social disobedience. Popelman is both provocateur and protector, advocating for those who are punished, shamed, or discriminated against for everyday bodily acts and politics, and invites us to see acceptance of one’s own body as a liberating and political act.
