Pablo Fernández Zapata views the absurd as a meaningful medium in his art practice—a dark, messy pond where he can fish for questions about existence and the material world around us.
Mud, dripping, steel, leaking, water, structure, mist, releasing, humidity, camera, reverse aging, screens, non-monitoring surveillance, residual, rusting, salt, time-worn… Hay animales de carne salada y no tan salada [tEN: here are animals made of salty flesh, and others not so salty] is an abstract form combining these elements and more into a concrete, material system that comes to life by consuming. The work seeks complicity in, while also being a bit of a nuisance to, the conventions of art.
